Letter to the Editor: Vote For My Husband, Jonathan West, for Manchester Selectboard

Thomas West with one of his 4 children, Eleanor West.

Jonathan is a 10th-generation resident of Manchester, born and raised here, attending MEMS and BBA, with his degree in music education from UVM. Whether volunteering at bingo nights to spend time with his late grandmother, directing his first of 4 Loyalty Day parades at 15 years old, or being the original voice to display the American flags on the utility poles after 9/11 at 19 (he and his dad drove through town and put up the flags themselves), his love for our town has been steadfast and unwavering decades before he declared his candidacy for the Selectboard.

As a loving husband and co-parent to our 4 young children who go to our local schools, I have witnessed the countless hours Jonathan has spent researching, attending community meetings, and engaging with fellow residents to better comprehend the needs and concerns of our town. His dedication to being well-informed and staying connected to the pulse of Manchester speaks volumes about his commitment to making informed and responsible decisions on behalf of our community.

During our service to the nation in the US Army, Jonathan as a military spouse, supported me every step of the way, even when I struggled at the Defense Language Institute. While I was learning the Russian language, he worked his full-time job while staying up late into the night to help me study, every night for more than a year. I would not have succeeded and went on to work at the National Security Agency if it weren't for his constant dedication and support.

Yes, he will come to the table with an agenda, one that recognizes the value of every person in our town, not just the loudest, wealthiest, or those who have the physical ability to show up at town meetings. We elect our leaders with the notion that they will do more than wait for ideas to land on their desks. We expect them to bring their own experiences and ideas on how to solve some of our most pressing questions of the day, like housing affordability and cell towers while doing everything they can to preserve our quality of life and the unique character of Manchester.

I am confident that Jonathan will bring fresh perspectives, innovative ideas, and a commitment to transparency to the Manchester Selectboard, something we need now more than ever. His leadership is characterized by inclusivity, open communication, and a genuine desire to serve the best interests of every resident.

I wholeheartedly support Jonathan in his campaign for the Manchester Selectboard, and I kindly ask for your support as well. Together, we can work towards a brighter, more vibrant future for our beloved town under his dedicated leadership and sincere love of our community.
