Momentum for Manchester

Two years of hard work have flown by, and the progress is real. I’m running for re-election to keep building on what we’ve started and to keep moving Manchester forward, thoughtfully, collaboratively, and with purpose.

Join With Me

Dear Manchester,

Thank you for the opportunity to serve our community on the Selectboard over the past two years. It has been a true honor to represent Manchester. While the time has passed quickly, it has been filled with meaningful work, thoughtful collaboration, and steady progress toward the goals we share.

One of the most meaningful parts of serving has been the trust so many residents and business owners placed in me. Over the past two years, people reached out because they believed they would be heard. Whether through a phone call, an email, a conversation at an event, or a chance meeting at a local store, those moments mattered deeply to me. I heard from neighbors about housing and food insecurity, shared opinions and advice on initiatives and proposals, ideas for new projects and collaborations, and questions about where to turn for help. Being that trusted partner for our community has been the greatest honor of my service.

When I first ran, I made clear commitments, especially around housing, which remains the most pressing issue facing Manchester. I’ve worked to ensure housing stayed at the forefront, backed by action and accountability.

Housing leadership and progress

  • As Chair of the Housing Task Force, ensured the group remained active and solutions-focused, working to increase housing supply and reduce costs for both homes for sale and rent.

  • Attended housing conferences and forums across Vermont, connecting with municipalities doing similar work and bringing proven strategies back to Manchester.

  • Helped request and earmark proceeds from the sale of the Depot Street properties specifically for housing initiatives.

  • Worked with environmental advocates to incorporate long-term, affordable energy solutions into future housing projects.

  • Helped lead multiple public forums to review and recommend proposals for the Airport Road parcel—a project which, if successful, may become one of the most consequential in Manchester’s history.

  • Building on the strong groundwork laid by Housing Task Force members and town staff, helped position Manchester to be awarded the Homes for All pilot program, bringing state and private resources to reduce red tape and lower barriers to building affordable homes.

Commitment to service and governance

  • Maintained full attendance at Selectboard meetings, because effective public service begins with showing up, every time.

  • Advocated for consistent, transparent processes so residents, applicants, and community members know what to expect when engaging with town government.

This work reflects a shared effort among residents, volunteers, town staff, and fellow board members. I am deeply grateful for the trust you placed in me, for the conversations we’ve had along the way, and for the opportunity to serve a community that cares so deeply about one another.

Today again, I am asking for your support in the upcoming election for the 2-year term. Your vote will allow the work started over the last two years, to continue and help continue the momentum Manchester deserves!

With appreciation,
Jonathan West
